The Twin Falls School District (TFSD) is thrilled to announce significant upgrades to the Harrison Elementary School preschool playground, making it fully accessible for children of all abilities. This summer remodel was made possible through the incredible generosity of an anonymous donor, whose contribution has transformed the playground into an inclusive space where all children can play and grow together. This upgrade is particularly important as the Harrison Preschool serves students with developmental disabilities and learning to play on the playground is an important step that will better prepare these students to join their peers when they transition to the general education setting. The District, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground on Thursday, October, 3 at 3:30 p.m.
The enhancements at Harrison Elementary are part of a broader initiative to improve accessibility across school and community playgrounds. In partnership with the Idaho Playground Project (IPP), the main Harrison Elementary School playground is also slated for extensive accessibility upgrades. The IPP, committed to creating inclusive play spaces, is working closely with Harrison Elementary to raise the necessary funds to make this vision a reality.
To support these efforts, the Idaho Playground Project has organized several upcoming fundraisers, including a golf tournament (https://idahoplaygroundproject.org/golf-tournament/) and an exciting raffle for a 2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty (https://the-great-potato-days-ford-truck-giveaway.square.site)/. These events will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of a fully accessible playground at Harrison Elementary, allowing children of all abilities to enjoy the benefits of outdoor play.
TFSD encourages the community to join in the ribbon cutting and these fundraising efforts and help make accessible play a reality for all children in the Magic Valley. Contributions and participation in the upcoming events will ensure that every child has the opportunity to experience the joy and inclusivity of these playgrounds.
